About us.
Hottie co began in country Victoria the kind of place where things are made to last and comfort is taken seriously. Our sister lives with endometriosis, and every night she’d be up again and again, reheating her hot water bottle just to get a bit of relief. We watched her shuffle out of bed, half-asleep, cold, in pain and knew there had to be a better way…
That’s when the idea came. What if we wrapped the bottle in sheepskin? It would hold heat longer, be like a warm cuddle from your best friend, and maybe - just maybe - she could rest without having to get up every hour. The goal was simple: to bring comfort when nothing else could and to help our sister.
No big plan. Just an idea, stitched together with care.
We couldn’t sew to save ourselves, but we gave it a crack one stitch at a time, usually after a long day and a strong cup of tea. That first Hottie was stitched by hand and the label stamped at the kitchen table. It was never meant to be a business. It was just something to help. But word spread. Friends asked for one. Then friends of friends. And before we knew it, our nights were spent stitching bottle after bottle, trying to keep up.
Eventually, we knew we needed to do it properly. But even as we grew, we refused to cut corners. Every Hottie is still made with the same intention and attention to detail that went into the very first one.
We use A-grade Australian sheepskin the best we could get our hands on - not just because it’s soft and beautiful, but because it’s durable enough to last. We use eco-tan sheepskin in every Hottie, avoiding harsh chrome treatments, so the material is better on your skin and avoids yucky chemicals. This might not mean anything to you but believe us when we say eco tan is the best option for you and the planet.
We use buttons instead of zips because they’re stronger, more reliable, and far less likely to break over time. We spent months testing hot water bottle inserts until we finally found one we trusted which is the Rolls Royce bladder sourced from Germany, known for their safety and durability. No leaks. No cheap rubber. Just warmth you can rely on.
Hotties aren’t mass-produced or designed to be replaced each winter. They’re made to be part of your life for decades. We design every one to last so when you reach for it on cold nights or tough days, it’s still there. Still soft. Still safe. Still yours.
What began as a one-off gift has quietly grown into something much more. Over time, it became a ritual a small, steady comfort people reach for when they need to feel held. Whether it’s easing cramps, warming cold feet, soothing a sore back, or simply offering something soft to cling to on a hard day, Hottie has become part of people’s everyday care. A little act of warmth that means a lot.
Hottie is the kind of gift you give once and it’s felt over and over again. For you, for your people, for years to come.
